Introduction
This video gives us a brief introduction of the topics we shall learn at the basic level of our course, Conflict Resolution Education.
Unit 1: Peace, conflict & violence
At the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Explore further the concept of peace, conflict and peacebuilding;
- Understand the concepts of structural violence and how it relates to peace and conflict;
- Understand better how one can contribute to peacebuilding.

Unit 2: Sources of conflict
At the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Understand what causes most conflicts, and that sources of conflict often fall into three categories;
- Understand that sources of conflict are complex and intertwined;
- Reflect on two examples or large scale conflicts and what their sources are.

- Understand that conflicts go through different stages;
- Reflect on factors influencing conflict escalation or de-escalation.

Unit 4: Conflict and conflict resolution approaches
At the end of this unit, you will be able to:
- Discover a tool developed to measure a person’s response to conflict situations;
- Understand that when we choose an approach in a conflict situation, our behaviour can be described along two basic dimensions: assertiveness and cooperativeness;
- Learn three different methods to impact conflict positively.

- Discover victim-offender mediation.
